Want to run for public office?

There are many vacancies and many districts where Republican candidates run unopposed. A goal of the California Young Democrats and the California Democratic Party is to have every elected office within the state, contested by at least one Democrat. This means, if a Democrat has not filed to run - Young Democrats should be stepping up to the plate!

  • School boards
  • Special districts (like Fire Protection, Mosquito Abatement and Sanitary)
  • City Councils
  • County Boards of Supervisors
  • YES, and even State Assembly, State Senate and Congress!

You may also consider running for your Democratic Central Committee. Many of these seats remain open each election and it is a perfect opportunity for young people to be elected. It is important to remember: even in contested districts, it is important for young people to file; you might just win!

For additional information about running for office in your area, contact your County Registrar of Voters or your local Democratic Central Committee.

If you are currently running for an elected position or are considering taking on the challenge, please contact CYD's Political Director Rocky Fernandez. If you are currently a Democratic public official under the age of 36, please let us know as well!

Good luck and see you on the campaign trail!
